Gary King
STEAM Development

Gary Michael King was born in New York City, and raised in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. He currently resides in Downtown Brooklyn. He is a lifelong member of the Bethany Baptist Church of Brooklyn. He attended the Brooklyn Ethical Culture School and Midwood High School before receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Princeton University. He was employed by the IBM Corporation for over 32 years, where he worked initially in Marketing Support and subsequently Global Services. Gary spent two years in the United Kingdom working as a Software Test Specialist in the Warwick Software Development Laboratory in Warwick, England. 

Currently, Gary serves as the Vice Chair and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Bethany Baptist Church of Brooklyn. He sings bass in the Bethany Choir and the Kingsmen (Bethany’s Men’s Chorus). He is the Class Historian of the Princeton University Class of 1979, and served as Class President from 2014 – 2019. Gary has served on many Major Reunions Committees including the 5th, 20th, 30th, and Co-Chaired the Class of 1979’s 35th Reunion in 2014. Since 2019, Gary has been the narrator of the annual Alumni Parade, known as “The One and Only P-rade,” which in 2020 and 2021 became the Virtual P-rade, or “V-rade!”. 

He is a member of the Princetoniana Committee, where he has served as Vice Chair (2013-2015) and Chair (2015-2017). He served on the Committee for Awards for Service to Princeton, Chairing the Committee in 2011. He was one of four recipients of the Award for Service to Princeton in 2016. He served as National Treasurer for the Princeton Princeton Prize in Race Relations (2011-2017), and is a member of the New York Committee for the Princeton Prize in Race Relations. He has been a member of the Alumni Council Executive Committee. He currently serves on the Board of the Princeton Association of New York City (PANYC). and the Graduate Board of the Princeton Quadrangle Club. He has served in multiple roles for the National Anthropos, an Affiliate of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. (its Men’s Affiliate), including National President (2015-2019), National Vice President (2011-2015), National Treasurer (2007-2011), Eastern Region President (2005-2009), and Easter Region Secretary (2001-2005). He is currently the National Anthropos National Executive Advisor and National Publicity Chair (Webmaster). Gary is both honored and humbled to serve on the Felicia’s Promise Team.

Felicia’s Promise works to provide technical and non-technical resources and training to prepare young women on STEAM career paths with communication, entrepreneurship, leadership, and other necessary skills that the organization deems necessary to uphold its mission.
